Here she is! We're trying to adjust to the new schedule of a baby. Everyone warned us about it, but you just don't know until you experience it. Not much sleep. By the way, if you're interested in stopping by to see the baby, we're going to let some people come by today from 1 to 5. Call me or shoot me an email if you'd like to come by.

Wanted to give you a heads-up on new social networking site designed specifically for those of us working in student ministry. Take a couple minutes to check out
SMconnect.org and look me up on there when you get there.

So I totally saw the batmobile on the back of a truck on my way to work this morning on the 91 freeway. I was very excited. Had to slow down to 40 to try and get a second picture of it. At least one other driver was not very amused with me.

Yesterday was our Mystery Road Trip. This is our second year doing this event and it's a pretty cool deal. A couple people have asked what the details were, so here's the deal. First off, you should know that most (but not all) of our summer events are geared around connecting people together. So there is a disproportionate amount of seemingly just for fun events during the summer than the rest of the year. Ok, disclaimer done.
For our Mystery Road Trip, we have students meet at the church at 10am and then we're back at 10pm. They don't know any of the locations we're heading to. We had some volunteers driving and a set of parents driving. Here's the itinerary from yesterday:
Check-in and hang out at The Loft (high school room at church)
Mini Golf at
Castle ParkLunch at
Shakey's PizzaScavenger Hunt at
Downtown DisneyJudged pics and gave out prizes at a church in the OC
Dinner at
In-N-OutRacing and arcade games at

Tony has a great post on simplifying your digital life. I'm not a super organized person, but am always wanting to figure out how to be. Nicole and I had an interesting discussion on organization that I will have to post later. Anyways, here's a clip:
1. Reduce your Distraction by Planning Your Inputs. This is not original to me at all, but I am saying a little different intentionally. David Allen would say that you need to only have as many inputs (or inboxes) of information as you need. Timothy Ferris is all about wildly reducing your inputs beyond the bare minimum - with a focus on only allowing yourself to interact with “results based information.” My middle ground is that there are inputs that are the connection to online communities I value, so I need to interact with them, but not at the whim of a notification or new message. Here is what I’ve done:
- Email 3 times a day: I check email at 12pm, 5pm and 9pm. This is extremely difficult but it is where you will find one of the most significant boosts in simplicity and concentration in your work day. I have to say this has actually irritated me because I have the terrible habit of letting email distract me into random (and lazy) action.

Our baby's due date is just 3 weeks away from tomorrow. Pretty exciting stuff. I now have a house full of things like pink blankets, baby monitors, LOTS of diapers, onesies, and loads of other baby stuff. There's a car seat base in the back of my car. And another in Nicole's. Then we have bags in the car ready to head to the hospital. I think we're about as ready as we're going to be.
My life is about to radically change (in a very good way).
