New Youth Room

We're in the process of designing a new youth room as part of the "Building for Tomorrow" campaign at our church. I'm pretty excited about it. Here's some of my thoughts:

  • We've never really had dedicated, good youth space. Now we will have a space that students can call their own.
  • I want to remain cautious of being overly reliant on a facility for youth ministry. The room's going to be very cool with a snack bar, cool lighting, video game stuff, foosball tables, and possibly a pool table. But at the end of the day, youth ministry IS relationships and all the other stuff is just crap that's cool to have.
  • Figuring out some of the issues with our youth space (we actually are getting the complete 2nd floors of two buildings) is causing me to have to seriously think through how we'll do ministry in the next few years. The old cliche "we shape our buildings and our buildings shape us" is totally true. I want our space to be shaped in a way that supports how we do ministry.
